Lake Anderson

Bird life abounds particularly in the Black Ball Dam reserve and around Lake Anderson. The Chiltern Walking Path logo depicts a Yellow-Footed Antechinus which is a small marsupial mouse native to the area, locally referred to as the golden mouse.

Mt Pilot National Park

This park features the striking Mt Pilot Range and Woolshed Falls and protects box-ironbark forest that once covered much of north-east Victoria. Short or day-long walks can be made on vehicle tracks through open forest and a 25 km historic drive is marked from Chiltern through the forest and goldfields.

Dow's Pharmacy

Step back into one of the few historically authentic shops in Australia with a visit to a country pharmacy. For over 160 years, this fascinating commercial premises was established in the mid-nineteenth century. The current building was constructed in 1868, but a pharmacy had been in operation on the site since 1859.

Chiltern Model Railway Museum

The Museum displays the history of the railways in North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales. along with the historical Wonthaggi Coal Mine complex that supplied coal to the Victorian Railways for the steam engine. A model of the town of St Regis in Montana, United State of America is shown in N scale. The museum also has, they believe, the largest Helix on display in regional Victoria.

Mt Barambogie Figure 8 Cycling Track

Suitable for year-round riding, this tree-lined route is perfect for intermediate gravel cyclists. Cruise through farmland vistas as you depart Chiltern, before taking on the 8km gradual climb to the top of Mt Barambogie through the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park - the views from the top are worth the leg work. Keep an eye out for local koalas and enjoy spectacular rolling rural vistas as you tackle the long, winding descent back towards town.
